Rear window MOLLE panel for the 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner

5th Gen 4Runner Storage Mods: 4 No-Drill Upgrades That Actually Get Used

The 2010–2024 4Runner has plenty of space. The problem is that Toyota left a lot of it unused: dead space over the rear windows, an empty void under the armrest, and door pockets too shallow to hold a phone. These four upgrades fix that, and none of them need a drill.

The quick list

Where Upgrade Install
Cargo area, over the rear windows Rear window MOLLE panels Bolt-in, 30–60 minutes
Cargo area, up top MOLLE panels with upper shelf Bolt-in
Under the armrest Hidden center console compartment 3M tape, 5 minutes
Door pockets Phone storage door inserts 3M adhesive, 10 minutes

1. Rear window MOLLE panels

The space over the rear side windows is the biggest unused area in the cargo hold. Steel MOLLE panels turn it into mounting space for recovery straps, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, tool rolls and MOLLE pouches.

  • Bolt into the factory mounting points. No drilling or cutting, so the install is reversible.
  • Steel with a matte black powder coat, driver and passenger sides, all hardware included.
  • About 30–60 minutes for both sides with basic hand tools. Full steps in our MOLLE install guide.

Fits: 2010–2024 4Runner. 3rd-row owners: the panels sit near the side curtain airbag area, so don't carry 3rd-row passengers with them installed.

2. MOLLE panels with upper shelf

Same panels, plus a shelf that gives you flat storage above the cargo area for jackets, blankets and sleeping pads. Good if you pack the back full for camping and want soft gear off the floor so a fridge or bins fit underneath.

Not sure which one you need? See standard vs. shelf compared.

3. Hidden center console compartment

There's a void under the armrest lid that the factory console doesn't use. This tray sits in that space and gives you a hidden spot for your wallet, registration and anything you don't want sliding around or in plain view.

  • Matte black ABS, mounts with the included 3M tape.
  • Clean with rubbing alcohol, warm the tape, press it in.

Fits: 2010–2024 4Runner.

4. Phone storage door inserts

The factory door pockets are too shallow for a phone, so it ends up in a cupholder or on the floor. These inserts make a snug slot in each door. Set of four.

Fits: 2010–2024 4Runner. Not compatible with Limited models.

Tips for adhesive parts

  • Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
  • Warm the adhesive with a heat gun or hair dryer.
  • Press firmly for 30 seconds and install above 15°C. In winter, warm the cab first. More in our winter install guide.
